Type Locality and Naming
It was named by Wang Naiwen, Liu Guifang and Chen Guoming in 1983. The naming section is located to the east of Zhangda Village till the Zhela Mts, Zhangda District, Langkazi County, Tibet. Lowermost formation in Zhela Gr.
Synonym: (滨湖组)
Lithology and Thickness
It is composed of black and grey-green intermediate porphyritic andesite-basalt, tuff, tuff intercalated with siliceous limestone and chert lenses, tuffaceous sandstone, volcanoclastic sandy conglomerate. Its visible thickness is of 130 m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
No base of it has been found and it is in a fault contact with the grey and grey-green sandstone, shale and siliceous slate of the underlying “Zhela Mbr” of the Langjiexue Fm of the upper Triassic. Regionally, the next older unit is the Ritang Fm claystone.
Upper contact
Regionally, the schematic strat column indicates the next younger unit as Xiaxi Fm
Regional extent
The formation is distributed essentially in the areas of Zhangda Village and Xiaxi Village, Zhangda District, with a consistent lithology, and with an exposed thickness of 130-150 m.
